I DON’T KNOW WHO I AM WITHOUT YOU
Big Feelings Belong Here | Space to Breathe Therapy
Loss can change far more than who is physically present. It can alter roles, routines, relationships, belonging, future plans and the version of ourselves that existed alongside another person or a former way of life. I Don’t Know Who I Am Without You is a full 10-page interactive guide exploring identity after loss without rushing the reader towards reinvention or “moving on.”
The guide begins by giving space to the parts of identity that feel changed or missing. A dedicated release page — “I NEED TO SCREAM — I DON’T RECOGNISE MY LIFE ANYMORE” — allows the reader to express the shock, anger and disorientation of living in a life that no longer looks or feels familiar.
Further pages explore “Who was I with you?” and the roles, routines, private language and ordinary moments that helped create a sense of self. The guide looks at secondary losses too: friendships and family dynamics can shift after a major loss, and being known primarily as part of a pair, household or particular role can make those changes especially painful.
A full section is devoted to the future the reader expected to have — including major plans and the ordinary future moments that never got the chance to happen. Rather than demanding a new plan, the resource explicitly makes room for “I don’t know yet.”
The later pages gently explore what remains part of the person’s identity, what they may want to reconnect with, and guilt about changing, laughing, making plans or becoming someone different. Change is framed not as betrayal but as part of a life that can continue to hold memories and continuing bonds.
The resource also helps the reader identify values, traditions, stories and parts of the relationship they may want to carry forward. The final page contains an individual message from Maggie about becoming without erasing what was, followed by personal reflection, books, references and bereavement support.
