Today the Grief Is Too Much

Some grief days are different. The loss is not simply present in the background — it seems to take up the whole room. Concentration disappears, ordinary demands feel enormous and even thinking about tomorrow can be too much.

Today the Grief Is Too Much is a full interactive resource for exactly those days. Rather than asking someone to solve their grief, find meaning or think positively, the guide helps them reduce the size of the task in front of them and focus on what is happening now.

The guide includes a full I NEED TO SCREAM — TODAY THIS IS TOO MUCH page. It deliberately gives permission for messy, repetitive, angry or exhausted expression without requiring calm language or a hopeful ending.

The following pages explore what hurts most today, everything that has piled up around the grief, and the moment that tipped an already difficult day into overwhelm. A detailed body page helps users notice physical signs such as heaviness, shaking, nausea, tension, fatigue, restlessness, tears, numbness, appetite or sleep changes and sensory overload.

The guide then deliberately shrinks the time horizon from 'the future' to the next hour. Users identify what they actually need, what can be made easier, and which decisions do not need to be made today. A separate demands page distinguishes what genuinely needs attention from what can wait, be delegated, cancelled or simplified.

There is also space to explore the impact of other people's expectations, including pressure to be strong or appear okay, and to identify what supportive people could do differently. Users create a personalised plan for future grief waves by recording warning signs, useful supports, things that worsen the wave and words they can use to ask for what they need.

A further page validates rest, numbness and temporary distraction. Taking a break from actively processing grief is not presented as forgetting or avoiding the person or life that has been lost.

The final page contains an individual message from Maggie reminding readers that an overwhelming grief day does not predict every day ahead and that sometimes getting through the day is enough. Books, references and bereavement-support information are included.

This is a 10-page interactive PDF with writable areas throughout and forms part of the Big Feelings Belong Here grief-expression series in the Space to Breathe Therapy Support Hub.
