Asking for Support While Grieving

Grief can make everyday tasks, communication and decision-making feel harder. Even when you know you need support, working out what to ask for — or finding the words to ask — can feel overwhelming.

This worksheet helps you break support down into smaller, more manageable questions. Think about who already knows you are struggling, who makes you feel safe and heard, and what practical or emotional support would genuinely make a difference.

You can also identify what makes asking difficult and the responses from others that you find unhelpful. Towards the end, there is space to create a simple sentence you could use to ask someone for support and to identify one person or service you could contact.

The aim is to help turn “I need help” into something more specific: what do I need, who might be able to help, and how could I communicate that? Support can be practical, emotional, professional or simply having someone alongside you.
