Difficult Dates & Triggers
Certain dates, places and reminders can make grief feel closer again. Birthdays, anniversaries, celebrations, holidays, music, smells, photographs or even unexpected everyday moments can bring strong emotions to the surface.
Use this worksheet to identify the dates, situations and reminders that tend to be difficult for you. Think about how you usually feel when you are triggered, what might help you prepare beforehand and who you could tell if you know a challenging date is approaching.
You can also consider what permission you might give yourself on those days — perhaps to change plans, rest, remember, cry, spend time with someone or simply do what feels manageable.
Creating a plan does not remove grief, but it can help you approach difficult moments with greater awareness, choice and support.
