Understanding My Grief – What This Worksheet Is For

This worksheet provides a gentle space to explore what grief feels like for you right now. Grief can affect emotions, thoughts, energy, the body, relationships and everyday life, and there is no fixed timetable or “correct” way to experience it.

What to do

Work through the questions at your own pace. Write as much or as little as feels comfortable. You can skip any question that feels too difficult and return to it another time.

Use the spaces to notice what you are carrying, what feels particularly hard, the emotions that are appearing, how grief is affecting your body and daily life, and what you need from yourself or others.

You can complete the worksheet once, return to it at different points in your grief, or use it alongside counselling or another source of support.

How it can help

Putting experiences into words can sometimes make them feel less tangled and easier to understand. This worksheet may help you:

  • recognise and name different emotions
  • notice how grief is affecting your body and energy
  • identify what is making everyday life more difficult
  • recognise small things that have helped
  • communicate to others what you wish they understood
  • identify what you need most today

The purpose is not to move you through grief or encourage you to “get over” your loss. It is simply a place to notice where you are today, with compassion and without judgement.
