The similarities between a stroke and ADHD

Following Greg’s Transient Ischaemic Attack (Stroke), we noticed that there were similarities between his symptoms following the stroke and our ADHD symptoms. This video showcases us as a family having a light hearted conversation about it.At first glance, some ADHD traits can look surprisingly similar to mild stroke-style symptoms, things like word-finding hiccups, forgetfulness, zoning out mid-sentence, or walking into a room and forgetting why. The difference, of course, is context and timing. ADHD-related lapses tend to be longstanding, familiar patterns, often there since childhood and woven into daily life. Stroke symptoms, on the other hand, are sudden, unusual, and a clear departure from someone’s baseline. It’s okay to laugh about the everyday “where did my sentence go?” moments that can come with ADHD, but it’s equally important to respect your body. If anything neurological feels abrupt, new, or dramatically different, that’s not an ADHD quirk, that’s a reason to seek medical attention.
