Grief Awareness: Navigating Loss and Finding Joy at Christmas

Grief and joy can coexist — by honouring memories, embracing support, and allowing yourself space to feel, healing can gently find its way back in.

As we approach Christmas, I can’t help but reflect on the bittersweetness of this season and that’s why I’m talking about grief awareness at this time of year. Losing both my parents has changed the way I experience Christmas. It’s no longer just twinkling lights and joyful music, it’s also a time for reflection and reminiscing. Grief at Christmas is complex, while memories of past celebrations bring joy, they can also remind us of the empty chairs around the table. If you’re feeling this too, know that you’re not alone.

With Grief Awareness Week coming up, 2–8th December, let’s shine a light on the importance of acknowledging and supporting those who are grieving. Sometimes, all it takes is a listening ear or a safe space to share. If you need that space, I’m here.
