Anxiety
Anxiety is the body’s alarm system responding to uncertainty, pressure or possible danger. It may bring racing thoughts, butterflies, nausea, restlessness, a pounding heart or a strong urge to avoid. Sometimes the alarm is helpful; at other times it stays switched on even when there is no immediate threat. This can make ordinary tasks feel much bigger than they are.
This resource offers a gentle way to notice anxiety without fighting or judging it. By grounding in the present, calming the body and reducing the next task to a manageable step, people can build a greater sense of safety and control. Anxiety may not disappear immediately, but it can become easier to carry and understand.
Coaching tips
· Lengthen the out-breath: breathe in gently, then breathe out a little more slowly.
· Name five things you can see, four you can feel and three you can hear.
· Write worries down so your mind does not have to hold them all at once.
· Replace “I must manage everything” with “I only need to take the next step.”
· Plan a small recovery period after a demanding or unfamiliar situation.
Coaching reflection: What is one small action that would help your body feel safer right now?
Until next time, give yourself space to breathe.
With love, Maggie
