Anxiety and Worry: A Six-Page Understanding and Practical Workbook

Anxiety is more than worrying thoughts. It can involve a powerful alarm response across the body, emotions and behaviour, while worry often tries to create certainty by repeatedly asking “what if?” This six-page workbook helps readers understand that cycle and practise more supportive ways of responding.

The workbook begins by explaining the relationship between anxiety and worry in accessible, non-judgemental language. It outlines how a trigger can lead to anxious predictions, physical alarm, checking, avoidance, reassurance seeking or overthinking, followed by brief relief and the return of uncertainty. Readers can identify their own common signs and the factors that make their alarm system more sensitive.

A detailed worry map provides space to explore one worry at a time: what triggered it, what outcome is feared, how the body responds, what coping behaviour follows and whether that response helps only briefly or supports wellbeing over time. This encourages curiosity about what worry may be trying to protect and what the person actually needs.

The workbook then separates practical worries from hypothetical “what-if” worries. Practical problems are supported with a clear action plan, while hypothetical worries are met with present-moment grounding, acceptance of uncertainty and gentle redirection. A circle-of-influence exercise helps readers distinguish what they can control, what they may influence and what they may need to release for now.

Further exercises help readers examine anxious predictions, consider the full evidence, identify the most likely outcome and create a balanced response. There is also an optional scheduled-worry-time activity, with safeguards for anyone who finds that focusing on worry increases distress.

The final personal support plan brings together early warning signs, a rapid reset, body and sensory strategies, helpful words, trusted contacts and one manageable next step. Clear urgent-support guidance is included for anyone who is in immediate danger or unable to remain safe.

This workbook may be useful for adults, teenagers, parents, carers, therapists, coaches and support professionals. Its fresh cloud-to-sunshine design includes rating scales, check boxes, planning spaces and reflection prompts. It can be completed independently, used in a supportive session or revisited one page at a time.
