Frustration

Frustration often appears when progress is blocked, expectations are not met or something takes more effort than anticipated. It may feel like impatience, irritation, tension or a strong urge to give up. Repeated difficulties can make frustration build quickly, particularly when someone is tired, hungry, overstimulated or under pressure.

This resource supports people to pause, identify the obstacle and choose a different response. A short break is not failure; it can help the thinking brain come back online. Frustration can also reveal where clearer instructions, more time, a different method or practical support may be needed.

Coaching tips

·   Step away briefly before the feeling becomes too intense.

·   Name the exact obstacle rather than judging yourself or the whole situation.

·   Try a different route: visual instructions, a timer, demonstration or smaller steps.

·   Check for hidden needs such as food, rest, movement, quiet or reassurance.

·   Ask: “Can you show me the first part?” or “Could we approach this differently?”

Coaching reflection: Is the problem the goal itself, or the way you are currently being asked to reach it?

Until next time, give yourself space to breathe.
