GROUNDING WITH TEXTURE & TOUCH

When anxiety or overwhelm pulls attention into racing thoughts, touch can provide something immediate and concrete to notice.

Grounding with Texture & Touch is an interactive sensory exercise built around everyday objects. Rather than simply being told to “calm down”, the person is given a practical task: find textures, investigate them, put sensations into words and discover which kinds of touch feel most grounding for them.

The downloadable workbook includes:
• a five-texture hunt
• a Texture Detective activity
• descriptive texture words
• a one-minute touch-focus exercise
• a pocket grounding-kit activity
• ideas for grounding when out and about
• a personal sensory-preference plan
• an after-exercise check-in

This resource recognises that sensory experiences are individual. A texture that feels comforting to one person may be irritating or overwhelming to somebody else. People are encouraged to put down anything uncomfortable, avoid forcing sensory exposure and build their own grounding approach.

The aim is not necessarily to make anxiety disappear. It is to give attention something real, physical and present to return to.
