Overwhelm
Overwhelm happens when the demands placed on the mind and body feel greater than the resources available. It can lead to racing thoughts, irritability, tears, shutdown, blankness or being unable to decide where to begin. Sensory input, multiple instructions, uncertainty and accumulated tiredness can all add to the load.
This resource helps people reduce the pressure before trying to solve the problem. It encourages fewer inputs, clearer priorities and very small starting points. Overwhelm is not laziness or a lack of ability; it is often a sign that capacity has been exceeded. Support, rest, adjustments and shared planning can make tasks accessible again.
Coaching tips
· Reduce input first: lower noise, dim lights, silence notifications or move to a quieter space.
· Put every task on paper, then circle only one that matters most.
· Shrink the first step until it feels possible, even if it takes only two minutes.
· Ask someone to help prioritise, body-double or complete part of the task with you.
· Build in recovery time before your diary becomes completely full.
Coaching reflection: What can be reduced, delayed, delegated or done differently?
Until next time, give yourself space to breathe.
With love, Maggie
