THE PIECES DEPRESSION TOOK AWAY
Recognising what has been lost - and how that can feel.
Depression can take things that other people cannot see: confidence, concentration, friendships, routines, intimacy, plans, enjoyment and a sense that the future belongs to you. These losses can be deeply felt even when the rest of your life appears unchanged from the outside.
The Pieces Depression Took Away creates room to acknowledge those experiences without immediately demanding a positive spin or a recovery plan. It explores invisible losses, the effect depression can have on confidence and identity, and why grief and anger can be understandable responses to what has changed.
Inside the downloadable resource is a personal reflection, the Naming What Was Lost exercise, a gentle activity for considering whether a piece might be reclaimed or allowed to change, and a section about living with pieces that may not return in exactly the same form.
Three books have been selected specifically for this topic, each with a review explaining its relevance. The resource also includes guidance about additional support and a closing Message from Maggie.
You do not have to pretend that nothing was lost in order to move forward. Sometimes being able to say “that mattered to me” is part of understanding where you are now.
